What is Holistic Lactation?

Holistic lactation is all about supporting you as a whole—body, mind, and spirit—during your breastfeeding journey. It's not just about the mechanics of feeding; it’s about your well-being too. We focus on natural, personalized solutions like nutrition, stress relief, and creating a supportive environment for both you and your baby. It’s about helping you feel confident, supported, and empowered every step of the way.

What can I expect during a lactation consultation?

During a consultation, our certified lactation consultant will assess your breastfeeding situation, including latch, milk supply, positioning, and your baby's feeding behavior. You’ll receive customized advice and tips to address your unique challenges and help make breastfeeding a more comfortable experience.

How do I book a consultation?

Booking a consultation with us is easy! You can schedule a session through our website’s Booking page or contact us directly at (208)495-5115 or info@wildmilkco.com. We offer both in-person and virtual consultations to accommodate your needs.

What are the benefits of a lactation consultant?

A lactation consultant can provide expert guidance and support to:

  • Ensure your baby is getting enough milk.

  • Improve breastfeeding positions and latch.

  • Perform a functional breastfeeding assessment to identify issues that may be related to oral ties and refer appropriately.

  • Address concerns like nipple pain, engorgement, or mastitis.

  • Offer tips on increasing milk supply or managing oversupply.

  • Help with transitioning back to work or introducing bottle feeding.

  • Assist with weaning when your breastfeeding journey is coming to an end.

Will my lactation consultation be covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover lactation consulting, either fully or partially. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm coverage. We are currently in network with Aetna, United Healthcare, we are actively pursuing credentialing with additional insurance companies. If out of network, we can provide you with a superbill that should meet the necessary documentation for reimbursement if needed.

How soon after birth should I schedule a lactation consultation?

The best time to initiate a lactation consultation is in the third trimester of pregnancy! If unable to schedule prior to baby’s arrival, we recommend scheduling a consultation 1-3 days after discharge from the hospital. This can provide assistance and support as your milk transitions and you are transitioning to life at home with baby. The earlier we address any concerns, the easier it will be to resolve them. We can help to establish breastfeeding routines that make the sleep deprived first couple of weeks feel more manageable.

Can you help with low milk supply or engorgement?

Yes, absolutely! We specialize in helping mothers with low milk supply, engorgement, and oversupply issues. Through a combination of techniques, education, and support, we will work with you to help increase your milk supply and address any discomfort.

How long does a lactation consultation last?

Consultations typically last between 60 to 90 minutes, but we will take the time necessary to address your concerns fully. Virtual consultations tend to be slightly shorter, but we ensure you receive the same level of personalized care and attention.

Do you provide breastfeeding support after the consultation?

Yes, we offer 2 weeks of follow-up support to ensure that you feel confident and supported after your initial consultation. You can reach out within the two week period after your consultation via email, text, or phone if you have additional questions or need further guidance. We are happy to schedule a follow-up consult if more in depth support is needed. We are here for you every step of the way!

Do you offer group classes or workshops?
